Kathryn Stockett titles her novel: The Help based on the fictional novel written in the book titled Help. However I think that just the inclusion of the article the provides major thematic significance. While within the novel they title the book that the characters write Help, Stockett titles the novel she writes herself The Help with the implications that the novel focuses on the story of maids themselves that identify with the Help. When one is first hit with the dramatic word help, one does not resort to the maids struggling to survive in Jackson, Alabama that person transports themselves to someone in dire need of Help, as in SOS Save our Souls kind of scenario. When the characters within the novel title their book Help, it almost serves as a plea for aid and assistance. With titling their book simply Help they rise the level of reality and express to readers this is actually happening and this is reality before our own eyes.
